Do you judge a wine by its label? Decoding the semiotics of typography

By TypeEd

The TypeEd community welcomes London-based Type Tasting founder Sarah Hyndman to educate us about wine label semiotics and typography. Bring a glass and enjoy this informative session.

Type Tasting founder Sarah Hyndman is the author of the bestselling book Why Fonts Matter (Penguin/Random House) and TEDx speaker. Sarah is on a mission to change the way we think and talk about typography by making it entertaining and relevant with humour, a dash of theatre, and lashings of audience participation.
Send in an image of your favorite wine label and we’ll analyze the type and meaning of the design. She will cover:
• Introduction to semiotics
• The importance of context/audience expectations
• A semiotics-based approach to typeface combining
• A group discussion decoding a selection of wine labels
