What Can We Do When Our Students Don't Value School?
By Dave Stuart Jr.
"Earth science is lame."
"Reading is boring."
"Writing isn't important."
"We won't use this kind of math in real life."
"Physical education is a dumb class."
"All I care about is my grade."
"I don't like school."
If you're in a classroom right now, you've probably heard things like this from some of your students. These are statements of value. Generally, they don't feel good to us teachers; they make us feel like there's a wall between our students and success.
But there's a different way to view them: as clues into what's happening in our students' hearts. And the research is far from silent on what we can do in these cases.
This is good news!
Join me for a one-hour professional development session. And please: pose any motivation-related questions you'd like. As soon as you register, you'll see an "Ask a question" link -- click that, and submit your query. I'll be answering all questions during the livestream, and all registrants will have access to the recording.
I'll see you Wednesday!
Teaching right beside you,
