Climate: Geoff Dembicki - The Petroleum Papers

By TPLCulture

Investigative climate change journalist Geoff Dembicki shares his new book The Petroleum Papers: Inside the Far-Right Conspiracy to Cover Up Climate Change with host Linda McQuaig.
55 years ago, commercial-scale production from Alberta's oil sands started when the Great Canadian Oil Sands (now Suncor Energy) started operation. In The Petroleum Papers, Dembicki tells the story of how the American oil companies that founded the tar sands in Alberta, Canada—home to the third-biggest oil reserves on the planet—ignored warnings about climate devastation as early as 1959. In the face of scientific alarm bells sounding off, Exxon, Koch Industries, Shell and others invested heavily into the creation of marketing campaigns, lobbyists and even scientific data dedicated to climate denialism.
