The PIE Webinar - Online vs. Face to Face. Can institutions successfully do both?

By The PIE

Online delivery is not new but, prior to the pandemic, was on the margins of most universities’ strategies – a niche proposition suited only to particular subjects and learners. Of course, covid changed all that, and all institutions – from schools up – suddenly had to deliver, not only teaching, but appropriate support services as well. And learners were no longer faced with a theoretical option of whether to choose online teaching. In short, just about all of the teaching and learning world had to pivot to online. This has created a set of circumstances that was unforeseeable just two years ago. All institutions, to varying degrees, know how to deliver their proposition online; all also know the relative benefits of online vs face to face. And large new segments of learners have suddenly become addressable – at home and overseas. But can institutions successfully do both, or are the characteristics of each model inimical to bifurcation? Put simply, is it a question of one or the other, but not both? In this webinar, we will learn how these issues are being considered within government, as we will hear from the former Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation – now driving the policy on Edtech at government level. The panel also benefits from the expertise of established practitioners of both models, as well as one whose covid pivot successfully spawned the creation of an entirely new online Digital Institute of teaching and testing services, whose rapid growth to 25,000 students in its first year is now being surpassed as the pandemic eases.
Panellists are:
Lil Bremermann-Richard, Group Chief Executive Officer, Oxford International Education Group
Rt Hon Chris Skidmore MP, former UK Universities Minister 2018-2020, Advisory Board Member, Oxford International Education Group
Carl Lygo, CEO & Vice Chancellor, Arden University, UK
Professor Iwan R. Davies, President and Vice Chancellor, Bangor University, Wales, UK
Chair - Nick Golding, Business Development Director, The PIE
