The Friday Fireside with Tom Nixon - Closing well
By The Happy Startup School
All things come to an end but endings don't have to be bad.
In 2015 we closed our agency not because it was a bad business but because it no longer served us as founders. Many people thought we were crazy and even asked why we didn't try to sell it.
This week we're joined by Tom Nixon, author, coach and founder of Maptio (a tool to help develop self managing organisations). He's on a mission to support founders and research what it takes to create (and close) impactful companies.
He's in the process of writing his book Founders in Flow. It’s a book for people who have started an endeavour to create or change something big in the world and helps them understand the vital role they play in holding everything together and making it happen.
Being a founder is a rollercoaster ride with tremendous highs and, sometimes, debilitating lows. We hope our conversation will help you ride that wave and empower your to respond to challenges positively.
If you're going through a tough transition in your business or at work OR you're part of founding team that are in the process of closing a business then there will be something in the conversation for you.
It's heavy stuff but we'll try and keep it light. Tom may also share his founder story involving flying to New York to smash a novelty teapot.
