Sustaining Our Spirits #5 - Gareth Higgins, author, storyteller

By David LaMotte

Gareth Higgins was born in Belfast in 1975, grew up during the northern Ireland Troubles, and now lives in Asheville, North Carolina
. He writes and speaks about connection to the earth, storytelling and the power of dreams, peace and making justice, and how to take life seriously without believing your own propaganda. Gareth helped found the Wild Goose, New Story and Movies & Meaning festivals; leads retreats in North America and Ireland; and edits The Porch Magazine.
If someone who didn't know him asked me to describe Gareth, I would say he is a community creator, and a story teller who not only understands how to tell a story well, but understands deeply why stories matter. He's as good at holding space in a room as anyone I've ever met, and has a gift for pointing out the mystery and miracle of everyday moments. He's also writes articles and books about cinema, and he is a hardcore Muppets enthusiast. Come join us for a conversation about art, community, and resilience. See you there,
David
