Sustaining Our Spirits #15 - Josh Goforth, musician
By David LaMotte
If you happened to catch my interview with four-time Grammy winner David Holt last Monday, you heard me ask him about current young artists that he thinks will endure over decades to come. One of the first names he mentioned was that of Josh Goforth.
As the great-great-great-grandson of legendary Madison County fiddler Asbury McDevitt, it’s fair to say that Josh Goforth has music in his blood. Josh grew up in Madison County, North Carolina surrounded by the music and stories of his ancestors. He is a highly accomplished storyteller and oldtime, bluegrass, and swing musician, playing nearly 20 instruments.
Goforth's fiddling was featured in the movie Songcatcher, both onscreen and on the soundtrack. He has performed in all 50 states, throughout Europe, Asia, and Australia and graced such stages as Carnegie Hall and The Grand Ole Opry. He was nominated for a Grammy for his 2009 release with David Holt, entitled Cutting Loose.
Josh is a delightful guy, and I've been honored to have him work on some of my recordings, too. This promises to be a fascinating conversation, and I hope you can join us!
