ABOUT THE AUTHORS
STEFAN BACHMANN was born in Colorado and spent most of his childhood in Switzerland, where he graduated from the Zürich University of Arts with degrees in music composition and theory. He is the author of several books including The Peculiar, his debut, which was published to international acclaim when he was nineteen years old.
"I play five instruments, some very badly. I grew up in a large old house next to a forest. I lived in Prague for a while, and Tokyo, and now I live in Zürich and Berlin. I was once lashed by a stingray in Greece and still have bits of its tail in my back. My first job in high-school was a funeral musician. (Being a funeral musician is vastly preferable to being a wedding musician. Just . . . in case you were wondering.) I like movies, books, weird music, traveling, art, trees, mountains, cold weather, and chocolate."
CHRISTOPHER PAOLINI is the author of the international bestsellers Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance, as well as The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm. His debut science fiction novel, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, is now available. He resides in Paradise Valley, Montana, USA.
The idea of Eragon began as the daydreams of a teen. Christopher’s love for the magic of stories led him to craft a novel that he would enjoy reading. The project began as a hobby, a personal challenge; he never intended it to be published. Before he began writing Eragon, he plotted out the entire adventure. He found that doing some of the same things as his characters allowed him to better understand their world, as well as to think of descriptions that otherwise would not have occured to him. To this end he forged his own knives and swords, made chain mail, spun wool, camped in the Beartooth Mountains, made his own bow, built survival shelters, learned to track game, fletched arrows, felled trees, hiked, and camped. In short, the books embody a great deal of his experience of living in Montana.
