Anuradha Roy: The Earthspinner

By TPLCulture

Anuradha Roy joins us to discuss her new novel, The Earthspinner, in conversation with author Megha Majumdar.
Sara is studying at a prestigious British university and seeks a reprise from her loneliness by practicing the traditional craft she learned in India when she was young: pottery. Moving its protagonists between India and Britain, The Earthspinner shows the many ways in which the East encounters the West, fanaticism wars tirelessly against reason, and the individual's creative desires struggle against a populace's basic instinct for destruction.
"Roy delivers profound insights on the power of art ('Work with whatever earth you get,' Elango tells Sara. 'A potter knows how to do that'), the hideous nature of religious intolerance, and perhaps most sadly, the consequences of pursuing a dream. This is Roy’s best to date." — Publisher's Weekly (starred review)
