No One Left Behind: Income Security for the 21st Century, Research and Social Media Advocacy
By The BIG Conference
After many low-income Canadians were left out of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), researchers from Queen’s University documented and analysed the experiences of 28 of these individuals through 45-60 minute interviews. Their findings were used to create a website, blogs and social media campaign to support the national campaign for an unconditional basic income.
This interactive presentation reviewed the results of their research, view six short films and summarize the successes and limitations of the social media campaign. The audience engaged in in a discussion about how to achieve greater visibility for basic income, enlarge the basic income visual culture, and mobilize effectively with creative storytelling in a media-saturated world.
