Bill Buford "Dirt" with Ruth Reichl
By Montclair Literary Festival
Join us for an entertaining and gastronomic evening with former editor of Granta magazine and writer and editor for The New Yorker Bill Buford talking about his latest book Dirt with bestselling author, food editor and restaurant critic, and former editor-in-chief of Gourmet magazine Ruth Reichl.
Dirt is a hilariously self-deprecating, highly obsessive account of Bill's adventures in the world of French haute cuisine; a great read for anyone who has found joy in cooking and eating food with their family.
This FREE event is part of Succeed2gether's Montclair Literary Festival at Home series.
You can buy Dirt from Festival partner Watchung Booksellers here. In-store shopping, shipping and contactless pick-up available.
Bill Buford has been a writer and editor for The New Yorker since 1995. Before that he was the editor of Granta magazine for sixteen years and, in 1989, became the publisher of Granta Books. He is also the author of Among the Thugs (Norton, 1992). He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, grew up in California, and was educated at UC Berkeley and Kings College, Cambridge, where he was awarded a Marshall Scholarship for his work on Shakespeare's plays and sonnets.
Ruth Reichl is the bestselling author of the memoirs Save Me the Plums, Tender at the Bone, Comfort Me With Apples, Garlic and Sapphires, and For You, Mom, Finally; the novel Delicious!; and the cookbook My Kitchen Year. She was editor in chief of Gourmet magazine for ten years. She has been honored with six James Beard Awards for her journalism, magazine feature writing, and criticism.
Succeed2gether’s fourth annual Montclair Literary Festival was scheduled for March 25 to 29, 2020. Due to the current health crisis, Festival Day is now planned for Saturday September 12, 2020.
The festival is a fundraiser for Montclair-based non-profit Succeed2gether, which offers after-school one-on-one tutoring and enrichment classes with the aim of closing the education opportunity gap in Essex County. You can read more about Succeed2gether and the festival at www.succeed2gether.org.
The festival organizing committee wishes to thank event partners Succeed2gether staff, Montclair Public Library, First Congregational Church, and Watchung Booksellers, and festival sponsors Rao's, Montclair State University, West of Hudson Realty Group, and community members.
