Lughnasadh: A Celebration of the Sun with Carly Dwyer

Join Celtic Reconstructionist Carly Dwyer live online for this in-depth look at the festival of Lughnasadh, which celebrates the bounty and blessings of Lugh, the Sun god. This marks the beginning of the harvest season and has been celebrated for over a thousand years in Ireland, Scotland, Britain, and the isles of Skye and Man. This raucously fun quarter-day is honored with a myriad of practices that are accessible to the largest coven gathering as well as the solitary practitioner forging their own rituals.
Class Highlights
- Access traditional, time-honored recipes
- Learn how to interpret the ritual sacrifice in a variety of ways
- Explore modern interpretations of ancient practices that you and your family and/or coven can do together to celebrate
This class will turn to the ancient texts as well as gathered folklore throughout the 19th and 20th centuries to help participants put together a celebration of their own that works for their practice, their resources, and their budget to honor and thank Lugh for His gifts as we prepare to say goodbye to him come Samhain.
About Carly Dwyer
Carly Dwyer has been a solitary practitioner of Celtic Traditionalism for 25 years. Born and raised on the North Shore of Massachusetts and a Salem resident for most of her adult life Carly has developed her personal practice in a rich and supportive community of witches and pagans. She received her BA, cum laude, from Harvard University where she directed her own major of folklore, anthropology, and performance focusing on Celtic and Nordic folklore and cultural recovery from catastrophe. She has a masters degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education in Art in Education and puts it to use running her company Intramersive Media where she designs larps and living games to teach people about history, humanity, and activism. She lives in Salem with her partner, her precocious daughter, and her lovingly spiteful cat.
