Lower Body Training for Aerialists (Replay)
By Shannon McKenna Aerial
LET'S BREAK IT DOWN:
Aerialists often neglect strengthening our legs and hips for two main reasons:
1. Our training places an TON of emphasis on developing the shoulders and back, and who has time to do anything else?
2. The myth that doing a lower body workout will build bulky leg muscles or a big butt. And some of us already suffer from feeling too heavy in the air.
LIES!
A good lower body workout will help you:
- Use less grip strength while climbing
- Get more power in dynamic movement
- Gain flexibility safely
- Prevent injury by stabilizing your hips, knees, and ankles
- Can be done just 2 times per week to see amazing results
But how to do it? You ask.
Shannon McKenna and Lauren Joy Herley created a workshop + workout to show you.
During this 2 hour workshop you will get:
- Targeted exercises for the glutes, quads, hamstrings, and other muscles you might not be thinking about
- Specific tips to using your lower body in the air
- A download with a workout that you can print out
EQUIPMENT:
This is a GROUND workshop, so no aerial apparatus is required.
This program is designed to be done without any equipment except a yoga mat (or carpeted surface), and a stool, chair, or bench near you. Also, you have the option to add a kettle belle or weights of your choice and/or resistance bands to intensify the exercises. Modifications for exercises are given.
