Carnegie Author Series:
Virtual Author Talk with Lisa Wingate
Thursday, June 24 │ 3 p.m.
Lisa Wingate is a former journalist, inspirational speaker, and New York Times bestselling author of over 30 novels.
Voted by readers as the 2017 Goodreads Choice Award winner for historical fiction, Before We Were Yours has sold over 3 million copies. The novel is based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandals—Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country.
She recently coauthored its nonfiction companion, Before and After, which chronicles real life stories of orphans who survived the Tennessee Children’s Home Society.
📷Her April 2020 novel, The Book of Lost Friends, was an instant bestseller. It follows an unlikely trio of girls coming of age as they embark on a perilous journey through reconstruction Louisiana and Texas… and a modern-day teacher in small-town Louisiana who rediscovers their story. The book was inspired by real-life “Lost Friends” ads, through which families separated during slavery sought to find their lost loved ones in the chaos following the Civil War.
Lisa lives with her husband in North Texas. More information about her books, writing tips and recipes featured in her novels can be found at www.lisawingate.com.
The Carnegie Author Series is supported by NBC4.
