Prepare for birth & more by learning to assess your pelvic floor
By Lady Bird Physical Therapy
Whether you're trying to conceive and wondering if you've always had pelvic floor tension, preparing for birth and wondering if you have a tight pelvic floor, or recovering postpartum and not sure if you even know how to contract your pelvic floor muscles, this webinar is for you.
Knowing whether your pelvic floor could benefit from strengthening, stretching, or both is an important first step to achieving better pelvic health.
We have the basic knowledge to understand when our shoulders or hamstrings are tight. We can tell when we’re clenching our jaws or holding our breath.
But we lack that basic knowledge for our pelvic floor and core. While the gold standard should be a pelvic health evaluation by a trained pelvic floor PT, understanding your anatomy and how to assess your own body is an important part of birth preparation and postpartum recovery.
During this mini-course, we cover six main topics:
- Anatomy & function of the pelvis, pelvic floor, vulva & abdominals
- Explaining pelvic floor symptoms & why you may experience them
- Reviewing the optimal pelvic health assessment and what pelvic floor PTs really look for during exams
- Discussing what we can realistically self examine at home
- Demonstrating and practicing self evaluation and palpation of the abdomen & pelvic floor
- Providing recommendations based on your findings for birth preparation and postpartum recovery
