The Friday Fireside - How to be a late bloomer with Kendra Patterson
By The Happy Startup School
Do you feel like you’re not hitting the milestones in life that you’re “supposed” to ?
Do you maybe feel like you’re falling behind your peers?
Maybe you don't want to hit those milestones but don't know what path to follow?
Or maybe you’ve achieved some “success” in life and you’re wondering “is this it?”
It could be that you're a late bloomer. Someone who wants to lead an unconventional life while still trying to make sense of it all.
I discovered the idea of the "late bloomer" listening to Kendra Patterson's podcast Stepping Off Now.
It spoke to me because of where I am now in life and how I've always felt.
Through Kendra I learned about the book Late Bloomers, by Rich Karlgaard. In that book he lists the strengths of late bloomers: insight, resilience, compassion, and wisdom.
But one that stood out to Kendra (and really resonated with me) was that late bloomers maintain a youthful and vigorous curiosity.
Kendra says that what holds most of us back from being late bloomers is psychological.
Our culture tells us that as we age we become less relevant and that you should have achieved your big successes and made your great contributions when you were young.
Ooof!
That's a lot of pressure for young people and a lot of regret for us older ones!
But we are full of potential at any age.
The key to being a late bloomers or even a repeat bloomer is to know that pursuing your curiosity is what blooming is all about.
The potential is in the pursuit.
What you achieve will then be down to persistence, patience and passion.
In other words: staying the course and enjoying the ride.
Join us on this Friday Fireside to explore these ideas with Kendra further.
If you're a late bloomer we'd love to hear from you!
