"John Lewis: Good Trouble" Screening Presented with the ACLU-PA

By City of Asylum

(run-time 130 min includes live discussion + Q&A with ACLU-PA)
JOHN LEWIS: GOOD TROUBLE chronicles the late John Robert Lewis’ 60-plus years of social activism and legislative action on civil rights, voting rights, gun control, health-care reform and immigration. Using recent interviews with Lewis, Director Dawn Porter explores his childhood experiences, his inspiring family and his fateful meeting with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1957. In addition to her interviews with Lewis and his family, Porter’s primarily cinéma verité film also includes interviews with political leaders, Congressional colleagues, and other people who figured prominently in his life.
"We must remember that in the history of every popular movement for justice, a shift in rhetoric almost always precedes meaningful progress, if not a seismic shift in popular opinion." Reggie Shuford
Following the screening, ACLU of Pennsylvania Executive Director Reggie Shuford will give a live talkback. Before becoming the executive director of the ACLU-PA, Reggie Shuford worked as an ACLU racial justice attorney. His work allowed him to cross paths with John Lewis before his death in 2020. Join us for this meaningful Black History Month discussion about how the ACLU-PA continues to make good trouble.
