As an artist and published author who's been doing this for a while, I've come to realize that I hate goals, I hate resolutions, and I hate to-do lists.
I don't know about you, but when I see my creative ideas as "goals," I can't help but feel my brilliant sparks of inspiration deflate into another tedious chore I had to slog through. Like eating more vegetables or going to the gym.
In a previous incarnation of myself, I was not having any fun being a creative person.
If I wasn't grudgingly working through my goals with the grim enthusiasm of a kid being forced to clean her room instead of watching cartoons (Finish a book! Build my portfolio website! Work on paintings and illustrations!), then I was feeling the self-flagellating guilt that I wasn't doing enough or being productive enough or wanting my goals enough to move forward with my vision as a real artist should.
...Not to mention the looming fear of failure and looking like a complete dummy if I didn't execute my creative ideas perfectly,  in order to ensure unanimous approval and monetary success.
