Growing School Food Gardens: Needs Assessment Report
By KidsGardening
The KidsGardening team is thrilled to announce that we were awarded a USDA Implementation Grant in July 2021 for our “Growing School Food Gardens” (GSFG) Project.
Our goal for this project is to use the brand new Kids Garden Community to form a vibrant network devoted to growing school food gardens, cultivating support, and share resources that respond to the needs of the community. We are in the planning phase of this project and were able to gain the perspectives of 542 school garden leaders in a preliminary needs assessment survey.
We have compiled the feedback from survey and created a comprehensive Needs Assessment Report.

In this webinar, we will be discussing the results of this survey, facilitating discussions around key points, and sharing about our next steps. Join this free event for an opportunity to connect with other school food garden educators and share your insights with us!
Feel free to post any questions or comments in the Crowdcast event chat before the event.
**This event will be recorded and the playback will accessible on this Crowdcast event page.
This year-long project will encompass:
- The GSFG sub-community hosted on the Kids Garden Community to facilitate peer-to-peer learning opportunities, mentorship programs, regional networking, and resource exchanges.
- 4 coaching calls and 12 webinars based on relevant and requested topics of interest.
- A GSFG Toolkit - a comprehensive, free virtual resource created for youth educators and leaders to create, maintain, and cultivate sustainable school food gardens.
While we plan to launch Growing School Food Gardens sub-community in early 2022, we invite you to join the Kids Garden Community if you haven't already and begin connecting with our network of garden educators.
