Dojo: A Creative Culture from the Inside-Out with Scott Boms

By TypeEd

The Typography Dojo is a place where we come together to explore the kata (techniques) in the practice of type and typography with training from design Sensei. Join us to learn from the masters. The Analog Research Lab began as a side project for a pair of designers in 2010 but has since become an integral part of the culture at Facebook, and an aspect that few outside the company have visibility into. In this conversation, Scott will open the doors to the Analog Lab archive to explore the whys and hows of this unique collection of posters, books, zines and other ephemera and how it continues to help foster a curious, inclusive, humble, and open culture.
Scott Boms is cross-disciplinary graphic designer from Toronto, Canada and the Global Design Lead at Facebook's in-house design and art making studio, the Analog Research Lab in Menlo Park, California. He wears many hats as a designer, maker, and educator. His focus is on unlocking the natural curiosity of the internal community at Facebook through delightful and provocative creative projects that intersect meaningful social values and the cultural zeitgeist. His work has been exhibited internationally and appeared in HOW, Fast Co, Wired, Offscreen, Tech Crunch and other publications. He regularly speaks about design, creativity, and communications theory. Sometimes he even sleeps, though not as much as he should.
