Birdwatch Ireland - Garden birds and how to care for them

By Monaghan County Libraries

In Ireland we have around 200 ‘regularly occurring’ bird species, some of which are here all year round and others that migrate to spend part of the year here. Of those migratory species, some come here for the summer to nest and others come here to spend the winter. If we include rare ‘vagrant’ species, then over 450 bird species have been recorded in Ireland.
Brian is the coordinator of the Irish Garden Bird Survey as well as a key member of the I-WeBS and CBS teams. Under the banner of I-WeBS he coordinates annual nationwide surveys of post-breeding Tern roosts (Aug/Sept) and the Icelandic Goose censuses (Greylag, Pink-foot) in liaison with WWT. Having spent three breeding seasons working on the Rockabill conservation project, Brian retains a strong interest in the monitoring and conservation of our Tern and Gull species.
