BEST LAID PLANS is a webinar panel to discuss the presentation of live creative events in a post-Covid world.
What should organisations and businesses be addressing in order to go 'back to normal' and host live events; or should we be preparing for the 'new normal', whatever that might be?
Experts from a range of creative business angles will present their thoughts, including:
- Lindy Hume, Artistic Director and Vernon Guest Executive Producer of Tasmania's Ten Days on the Island, discussing their approach to the 'new normal';
- Suzanne Derry, from the Arts Law Centre of Australia, discussing the legal aspects of live events;
- Monica Davidson, creative business expert, focussing on issues of risk analysis and cost benefit;
- Zena Armstong, Director of the Cobargo Folk Festival, discussing the proposed approach for regional festival circuits.
The event will be facilitated by Andrew Gray, business advisor and Executive Director of South East Arts.
Ideal for: Arts organisations and businesses hosting creative live events and festivals, and anyone curious about the 'new normal'.
Who is presenting?
Business advisor and creative industries expert Monica Davidson from Creative Plus Business, business advisor and Executive Director of South East Arts Andrew Gray, Artistic Director of Tasmania's Ten Days on the Island Lindy Hume, Executive Director of 10 Days on the Island Vernon Guest, Senior Solicitor/Director of National Partnerships and Programs from Arts Law Suzanne Derry, and Director of the Cobargo Folk Festival Zena Armstrong.
Monica is a writer and filmmaker by trade who learned how to run a successful creative business and now shares that knowledge with others. In her workshops, Monica discusses her own experiences and shares examples from the thousands of people that she has mentored through the process of starting and building their creative businesses in the last twenty years.
Andrew Gray has decades of experience in the creative and cultural industries, including as the Executive Director for South East Arts, the regional arts development organisation for Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Snowy Monaro. In addition to his small business experience, Andrew holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education. He is also an occasional musician, performing with bands The Jonathan Richman Experience, The Novellas and Stonewave Taiko.
Lindy Hume is Artistic Director of Ten Days on the Island, Tasmania's biennial state-wide festival and is one of Australia’s leading artistic directors, acknowledged for progressive leadership of several Australian arts organisations. Lindy served on the Australia Council’s Major Performing Arts Board, was Chair of South East Arts and Regional Arts NSW, and is the recipient of an Australia Council Theatre Board Fellowship. Originally a dancer, she has created more than fifty major opera productions across Australasia, Europe, and the USA.
Vernon Guest is Executive Producer of 10 Days on the Island. As a senior producer, programmer and arts manager, Vernon has curated festivals, venues and events across Australia. Suzanne enjoys educating artists about their rights and providing practical advice across a range of arts areas.
Zena Armstrong is the Director of the Cobargo Folk Festival, a volunteer-run event that would have celebrated its 25th year in 2020 but was cancelled because of the New Year’s Eve bushfires. A committed longtime volunteer and performer at Australian folk festivals, including the National Folk Festival, Zena squeezed in a career first as a journalist and then with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade where one of her jobs was promoting Australia art and culture internationally, including administering the Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grants Program. A strong advocate for folk music and culture, she is active in national and international folk forums.
