Arshia Sattar: Hindu Epics Today

By TPLCulture

The Mahabharata and the Ramayana are two of the most important poems in the world. The two Hindu epics are also foundational texts for many Indians. These stories, written in verse, tell amazing tales of gods and goddesses taking human form, familial bonds and rifts featuring episodes of love, jealousy and acceptance, and great wars fought out on chariots, with warriors raining down bows or charging with their maces. They are often considered accounts to live by.
Join us for a conversation on how the stories of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana live on today, in India and beyond. From exploring the concept of dharma, or righteousness, in each text, to talking about the monkey god Hanuman, this promises to be a lively discussion for everyone -- those who are deeply familiar with the texts, as well as those who've never heard of them before.
Award-winning translator and author Arshia Sattar will be in conversation with community storyteller, artist and educator Sharada Eswar.
