Allison Crotzer Kimmel & Joanie Stone with Brook Doire
By An Unlikely Story
It's Independent Bookstore Day, and we're celebrating with author Allison Crotzer Kimmel and illustrator Joanie Stone, to introduce UNBEATABLE BETTY, a picture book biography of the first female gold medalist at the 1928 Summer Olympics, Betty Robinson. Joining Allison and Joanie is Brook Doire, Betty's granddaughter, to share Betty's incredible story: How she survived a horrible plane crash which left her in a wheelchair and with one leg shorter than the other. How she relearned how to stand, to walk, and finally to run again - to come back and compete in the 1936 Olympics and win gold again. Betty Robinson’s life story is remarkable and admirable, proving how you need not only talent to win gold, but also determination and hard work.
