DBF Keynote alum Colin Meloy (Everyone’s Awake ) talks picture books with Dave Eggers (Her Right Foot and What Can A Citizen Do?), founder of McSweeney’s and prolific writer, and Shawn Harris, the talented illustrator of their books as well as co-creator of the sci-fi saga, The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza, a live cartoon conjured up with Mac Barnett during COVID shelter in place.

About the Authors:
Colin Meloy is the lead singer and songwriter of The Decemberists, and the author of several children's books, including the New York Times bestselling Wildwood series. His most recent picture book is Everyone’s Awake, illustrated by Shawn Harris. He lives in Portland, Oregon.
Dave Eggers is an American writer, editor, and publisher. He is also the founder of McSweeney's, the cofounder of the youth writing organization 826 Valencia, and the founder of ScholarMatch. His forthcoming picture book is We Became Jaguars, about a boy and his grandma journeying into the lush, undiscovered world of nature, experiencing true freedom, and losing themselves in the exhilarating power of pretending.
Illustrator Shawn Harris is an artist and musician who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is the illustrator of several award-winning children's books including Her Right Foot and What Can a Citizen Do? Harris’s incandescent author/illustrator debut, Have You Ever Seen a Flower? is a trailblazing, enchanting portrait of the vital relationship between childhood and nature. will be published by Chronicle Books on May 4th, 2021.
About the Moderator:
When she's not selling books at Little Shop of Stories, Madison Hatfield is acting, screenwriting, and doing comedy around Atlanta. She helps run Shakespeare on Draught, a "Best of Atlanta" Shakespeare company, and she writes and performs sketches with her team Eternal Slumber Party.
