Actors Talk August" Presented by August Wilson House

By City of Asylum

Streamed on City of Asylum’s Virtual Channel. (70 minute run-time) *please note 8:15 pm start time*
August Wilson House celebrates America’s greatest playwright with substantial insider interviews, usually streaming on the first and third Monday of each month.
Featured are leading August Wilson actors, directors and artists, national and regional, interviewed by Chris Rawson, veteran Pittsburgh Post-Gazette theater critic who chronicled Wilson’s career and became a friend. The goal is to capture the memories, anecdotes and insights of those who know Wilson’s epic American Century Cycle from the inside.

TIMOTHY DOUGLAS is one of the most active August Wilson directors, with a world premiere at Yale Rep and a total of nine of the ten American Century Cycle plays in 24 productions at 16 theater companies. He has worked all over the country – near, far and in-between, with his August Wilson plays just a small part of a voluminous body of work – such that finding time for the interview has been a struggle in itself. Tim has administered several theaters, received many awards, and been active as actor and teacher. It should be an energetic, revelatory interview.

August Wilson House (AWH) is Wilson’s Hill District childhood home at 1727 Bedford Ave. It is being restored as an arts center that will promote his artistic and cultural legacy while nurturing the artists of the future. Although the restoration won’t be finished until 2022, AWH is already sponsoring a wide range of programs including the annual Hill District Block Party/Community Festival, backyard productions in collaboration with Pittsburgh Playwrights Theater, AWH Fellowships in collaboration with Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh, August in the Schools (debuting this fall), several oral history projects and other programs centering community engagement.
