Dr. Dawn Wright, Chief Scientist, Environmental Systems Research Institute
Advancements in mapping technology have allowed us to explore and understand the Earth more deeply. Dr. Wright will lead a journey through past and current explorations of our planet, especially the oceans, and introduce some of the key scientific players along the way. Learn how harnessing our increased knowledge to save and sustain the planet offers new hope for the future.
Dr. Dawn Wright is Chief Scientist of the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri), a world-leading geographic information system (GIS) software and data-science company. She holds an affiliated faculty appointment as Professor of Geography and Oceanography in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. Dr. Wright has published widely on marine geographic information systems, seafloor mapping, ocean exploration, education, and conservation. She holds a B.S. in Geology from Wheaton College (Illinois, an M.S. in Oceanography from Texas A&M, and a Ph.D. in Physical Geography and Marine Geology from UC Santa Barbara.
