We will be joined by Mark Tanner, owner of Seattle Mead Company &
Deception Cellars meadery. Mark will be discussing:
- How he develops many of his award-winning flavor profiles
- How he is creating meads that will positively age for decades
- The differences between red wine from honey and red wine from
- grapes

Mark is the owner of Seattle Mead Company and Deception Cellars
meaderies. He has been making award-winning meads since 2009 as a home enthusiast and started making mead professionally in 2018.
Mark is a National BJCP mead and beer judge and was one of the first mead judges in the country to pass the BJCP Mead exam (2010). In 2013, he was awarded National Mead Maker of the Year at the National Homebrew Competition and in 2016 he won Mazer Cup Best of Show. His two commercial brands have won Mazer Cup Medals in 10 of the 26 categories in the past 2 years.
