World Mental Health Day - How to Support Mental Wellbeing in the Workplace
By Julie Allen Consulting
đź“·The aim of World Mental Health Day, observed on 10th October every year, is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and encourage action in support of mental health.
The theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day campaign is Move for mental health: let’s invest
“World Mental Health Day is an opportunity for the world to come together and begin redressing the historic neglect of mental health,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). “We are already seeing the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on people’s mental well-being, and this is just the beginning. Unless we make serious commitments to scale up investment in mental health right now, the health, social and economic consequences will be far-reaching.
World Mental Health Day provides opportunities for all of us to commit to something in support of mental health.
Why Invest in Workplace Mental Health Support?
According to WHO:
- 1 billion people are living with a mental disorder.
- 3 million people die every year from the harmful use of alcohol.
- 1 in 4 will be affected by a mental health issue at some stage in their lives.
- Depression is one of the leading causes of disability.
- Every 40 seconds someone dies by suicide.
- Mental health disorders could cost the global economy up to $16 trillion between 2010 and 2030 if a collective failure to respond is not addressed.
Prior to COVID 19 there was limited access to quality, affordable mental health care in the world before the pandemic, Accessing these services in the last six months has become much more difficult, perhaps impossible for some, as health services globally have been disrupted to cope with the physical impact of the virus.
Those who are psychologically resilient are able to perform well in difficult situations, adapt more easily to changes, be capable of making better decisions and developing effective working relationships.
This free 60 minute webinar will focus on how to support mental wellbeing in the workplace.
Specific areas of focus will include:
