Ask me how many sisters I have and I will say four. Brothers? I had two, both now waiting for the resurrection. I know much of each one's story. I can tell you something about how old they are, where they grew up, who they married, what kids they have, their personalities, their Christian beliefs, in what direction their political beliefs lean, their careers . . . all of that. You might be able to do much the same.

But if you are in Jesus Christ, that's only your natural family. You and I have millions--literally--of brothers and sisters stretching back for thousands of years. Polycarp, Irenaeus, Perpetua, Felicity, Augustine, Columbanus, Thomas Aquinas, Catherine . . . the list goes on and on.

Their stories are our stories, just like the stories of our parents and our siblings are ours: their lives intertwine with ours such that we would be different people had they lived differently.

And yet, for most of my life I knew nothing about them. I knew far more about the families of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and FDR than I did my real brothers and sisters in Christ. I knew much more about my national ancestry than I did my spiritual ancestry.

Maybe you are the same.  If so, this new series is for you. For the next year or so I plan to teach a series about our Christian family over the past two thousand years.  I'd love for you to join me.

Most importantly, you will have a chance to steer this series, if you so choose. I want to find out what questions are most important to you and seek some answers.  You'll also receive a lot of reading suggestions about the various people and themes we talk about.
