Reading Challenge Online Book Discussion: Indigenous Voices

By TPL Programs

Join us for a Reading Challenge-themed discussion all about books! Our hosts Nalini and Despina will be discussing books for "a book by an Indigenous woman or Two-Spirit Indigenous person." Follow along and share your input.
Two special guests will be joining us!
Nancy Cooper is from the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. She also comes from Irish settler background and Pottawatomi peoples. Nancy is the First Nation Consultant at the Ontario Library Service and works with 46 First Nation Public libraries throughout the province. A writer herself, Nancy is the author of The Trading Tree which was shortlisted for the First Nation Communities READ award in 2020/2021. Her next book, Amik’s Big Day will be published by Owlkids Books in the fall of 2022. Nancy lives in Toronto.
Feather Maracle is Mohawk from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory with family ties to Six Nations of the Grand River, and Odawa – Potawatomi from Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve. She is a Mother to two kind, beautiful and gentle children. And, she is also the CEO and Director of Library Services of the Six Nations Public Library – the largest and oldest First Nation public library in the world. Feather has been raised with the values of her cultures, and continues to be guided along the path of traditional knowledge systems. She has a genuine passion for Indigenous ways of knowing, and the importance and relevance to the modern day world, in additional to librarianship and education.
This event will have live captions.
