Tom Nichols: Our Own Worst Enemy

By TPLCulture

Tom Nichols is a professor of National Security Affairs with the US Naval War College, a columnist for USA Today, a contributing writer at The Atlantic - and is one of the 14 senior advisors to the Lincoln Project.
In his new book Our Own Worst Enemy: The Assault from within on Modern Democracy, Nichols explores the rise of illiberalism and anti-rationalism in American politics. Continuing the arguments laid-out in his previous book The Death of Expertise, Nichols suggests the real threat to our democracy isn’t globalization or xenophobia but instead points toward homegrown narcissism built around modern lifestyles, fueled by technological advances, that encourage intolerance, impatience and mistrust. Tom Nichols joins the Toronto Public Library to discuss Our Own Worst Enemy and the divisive nature that is permeating in current democratic society. About this event’s guests: Tom Nichols
