Each year, tens of thousands of newcomers from around the world choose Toronto as their new home. With so many different cultures come different ideas of nature. How do these ideas of nature translate in Toronto?  

From manicured ravine trails to the Blue Flag beaches giving access to the Great Lakes, bike paths to railpaths, some newcomers may feel intimidated in these outdoor spaces. This talk explores the challenges of feeling at home in a new country/city, and how outdoor spaces can help in that transition. 

Hosted by Andrés Jiménez, TPL's Environmentalist in Residence (EnvIR) this final EnvIR program will explore what it means to feel at home in Canada, Toronto and nature as a newcomer.

Junaid Shahzad Khan, an ecologist, published science author and co-founder of @happiestnature on Instagram, a place to discuss the connections between mental health and nature while encouraging others to share how they tap into everyday nature.

Demiesha Dennis, also known as @BrownGirlOutdoorWorld on Instagram, an avid fishing, birding and all-round outdoor enthusiast from Jamaica.

This talk is ideal for newcomers and outdoor enthusiasts who might not know where to start in their exploration of the great Canadian wilderness.
