Jonathan Manthorpe: Restoring Democracy

By TPLCulture

Journalist and author Jonathan Manthorpe has spent 50 years as a global affairs correspondent, providing him with a front-row seat to the shifting political tides around the world. In his new book Restoring Democracy in an Age of Populists and Pestilence, Manthorpe explores the Democracies of the North Atlantic, providing in-depth analysis on our increasingly polarized political dissatisfaction.
By looking at internal threats such as economic disparity brought on by the quickening pace of technological advancement, racial insecurity and the rise of right-wing nationalism, and the foreign interferers that are working to manipulate a growing sense of disenfranchisement with political elitism in the West, Manthorpe helps to define the two-front war our democracy is currently facing.
Jonathan Manthorpe joins journalist Beatrice Paez to discuss his book Restoring Democracy and potential steps we can collectively take to encourage a more resilient, inclusive and tolerant liberal democracy.
