Dawnie Walton: The Final Revival of Opal & Nev
By TPLCulture
In her beautifully crafted debut novel, The Final Revival of Opal & Nev, author Dawnie Walton brings to life a faux music history that feels truly authentic. Composed using fictional interviews, footnotes, transcripts and album liner notes, this book goes beyond creating the illusion of a "real-life" rock & roll duo from the 1970s.
Through the characters of Opal, a fierce archetype of Afro-punk ethos, and aspiring British crooner Neville Charles, we are gifted a sweeping story that travels from the genesis of the civil rights movement to the divided USA of today. Through the course of the novel the reader is challenged to reflect on Blackness in America, the cult of celebrity and intergenerational trauma.
Join Dawnie Walton as she sits in-conversation with Nam Kiwanuka to discuss their novel The Final Revival of Opal & Nev.
