Birding By Ear: Mindful Listening
By TPL Programs
For many people who enjoy bird watching, it is the spectacular colours and shapes that catch their attention. The identification of birds is most commonly through physical identifiers such as colour, shape, and size, but what about its song?
Join Andrés Jiménez, TPL's Environmentalist in Residence (EnvIR) as he takes you on a journey through the soundscape of birds and how to recognize and identify the wildlife around you by just using your ears.
Learn to identify birds by their calls as each bird has a unique song to sing. Anyone can learn to pick up the different bird songs as long as you are open to re-learning how to listen.
Andrés will explore what mindful listening is, review the most common birds to listen for in Toronto, their calls and the messages they are communicating.
This talk will help start your journey into birding by ear.
This virtual presentation is the Live & Online version of Toronto Public Library's Our Fragile Planet program series.
