Matthieu Aikins: The Naked Don't Fear the Water
By TPLCulture
Author and journalist Matthieu Aikins discusses his new book The Naked Don't Fear the Water with author and documentary filmmaker Ann Shin.
Since 2008, Matthieu Aikins has been reporting from Afghanistan for New York Times Magazine and Rolling Stone. His new book, The Naked Don't Fear the Water recounts his harrowing journey across the refugee trail alongside his Afghan driver, translator and friend Omar. Their odyssey across land and sea from Afghanistan to Europe brings them face to face with the people at heart of the migration crisis: smugglers, cops, activists, and the men, women and children fleeing war in search of a better life.
A poignant and personal look at the wider and ongoing impact of war, The Naked Don't Fear the Water :An Underground Journey with Afghan Refugees reminds us of the living casualties of war and the unbearable burden of being stateless in the world.
