Hilding Neilson is an astronomer at the University of Toronto, where he studies stellar and exoplanet astrophysics. He’s Mi'kmaw from the island of Newfoundland and a member of the Qalipu First Nation.
Taylor Morriseau (Cree/English, Peguis First Nation) is a PhD Candidate at the University of Manitoba in the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics. As a recipient of a CIHR Vanier Scholarship, she investigates gene-environment interactions underlying type 2 diabetes among Indigenous youth. Her research integrates basic science tools with Indigenous knowledge on traditional foods in pursuit of culturally-safe therapeutic strategies. She is committed to broader scientific and societal challenges serving in an advisory capacity to the Chief Science Advisor’s Youth Council, the Native BioData Consortium, Research Canada, and CIHR’s Institute for Human Development, Child and Youth Health.
