The Vancouver Plastic Cleanup: Introducing the Seabins Project
By Swim Drink Fish Canada
We're taking action to clean up the waterways of Vancouver. Join us!
In 2017, 25,000 microplastics were counted in False Creek in a single reading. An estimated 30 billion microplastics are released into Vancouver's waters each year by water treatment plants, polluting their surrounding watersheds.
That’s why we’re taking action. As part of the Peter Wall Coastal Protection Initiative, Swim Drink Fish is launching the Vancouver Plastic Cleanup by installing, maintaining, and overseeing multiple trash skimmers, including Seabins, in Vancouver over the next three years to engage in a waste characterization, plastic education, and advocacy project. We’ve just submerged our first Seabins in the waters of Granville Island and want to share the project with you this June 22nd!
Find out about our exciting naming contest and enter to win one of our amazing prizes from Strub Activewear, Vancouver Water Adventures, and SMAK healthy fast food.
Join us online at 2pm PDT on June 22nd to learn more about the Vancouver Plastic Cleanup, and how to join the movement in our fight against plastic pollution.
Thank you to our wonderful partners on this project for your support in launching False Creek's very first trash skimmers: The Peter Wall Charitable Foundation, Pollution Probe, Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup, Dentist on Demand, CMHC, Maritime Market Marina, Sea Village Marina, Smart Marine Co., Water Products & Solutions, Poralu Marine, Surfrider Vancouver, and the U of T Trash Team.
