The Lancaster Environment Lecture: Earth Democracy - Dr Vandana Shiva
By Lancaster Litfest
Litfest is proud to announce the first Lancaster Environment Lecture, a joint venture with Lancaster University.
COP-26 has shown us that fine words unsupported by any binding legal requirements will not enable us to solve the global challenge the Climate Crisis poses. In this lunchtime lecture, award-winning environmentalist and best-selling author, Dr Vandana Shiva, discusses the relationship between the local and the international, and calls for us not to fall for the false freedoms of “free trade”, corporate rule and consumerism, and to stand up for diversity and our common future.
“Vandana Shiva is one of the world’s most prominent and radical scientists”
-Guardian
The lecture will be followed by a conversation with Rebecca Willis and a Q&A.
Dr Vandana Shiva is a scientist, philosopher, feminist, author, environmentalist and activist who campaigns for peace, sustainability and social justice. In 1991, she founded Navadanya, a movement which aims to protect nature and people's rights to knowledge, biodiversity, water and food. She has written more than 20 books, including Earth Democracy: Justice, Sustainability and Peace and Oneness vs the 1%: Shattering Illusions, Seeding Freedom.
Supported by the following departments at Lancaster University: Languages & Cultures, English Literature & Creative Writing, Lancaster Institute of Contemporary Arts and Lancaster Environment Centre.
