The Art of Aerial Coaching

By Shannon McKenna Aerial

*REPLAY IS AVAILABLE - WATCH AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT*
Whether you've learned to teach through a solid teacher training program, apprenticeship, or time and experience, you know there's a lot to aerial coaching: safety, spotting, rigging, anatomy, and all the tricks... so many tricks.
But how do you teach creativity?
It may not seem essential at first, but if you've ever felt burned out, struggled to come up with new material, or noticed that your students stop progressing at a certain level, it might be that your spark of artistry needs to be reignited.
This workshop will help you:
  • give your students space to explore, so you don't feel like a trick vending machine
  • teach a mix of students of different levels all at once
  • adjust your lesson plan based on your student’s body type, learning style, or other individual needs
  • create an environment that is fun for everyone (including you!!!)
It is great for coaches of all apparatus and experiences. Think of it as a continuing education workshop to support and enhance your skills as a coach. Improve your aerial instruction and remember why you wanted to do this whole teaching thing in the first place!
WHO IS THIS FOR:
Anyone who currently coaches, is thinking about coaching aerial, or wants a deeper understanding of what goes into teaching a class or aerial practice that balances good technique with creativity.

More about your guest instructor:
📷
Gena DuBose is a movement artist, aerial hoop coach, and the founder of SOAR Aerial Dance.
Though Gena was never a trained dancer, she brings her own style of movement and grace to her artistry. She spent over 10+ years focusing on physical awareness, movement capabilities, and how they pertain to the human body. She has certifications in: STOTT Pilates, Power yoga, Ashtanga yoga, and personal training. The knowledge from these various studies informs her approach to her aerial practice.
Her work with SOAR focuses on collaborating with professional, and local artists to bridge the gaps in aerial arts. She teaches students how to thrive using creativity and technique, and helps other instructors expand on their own abilities through teacher trainings and mentorships.
She is the creator of the Aerial Instructor Enhancement Program, a 6-week online course for instructors to learn how to enhance their teaching using creativity and technique.
When she isn’t coaching, creating, or staring blissfully at her aerial hoop, you can find her trying to corral her busy kiddo.
