Sustaining Our Spirits #2 — Jonathan Byrd, songwriter
By David LaMotte
Jonathan Byrd has been on the road playing music full-time for twenty years, touring all over the U.S., Canada, and Northern Europe in that time.
He's also a fine art photographer (a light-writer, etymologically), a Gulf War veteran, a preacher's kid like me, and a brilliant dude, in general. I love every conversation I have with Jonathan, but I'm particularly looking forward to talking with him about songwriting, art, and resilience in hard times.
I learn something from Jonathan every time I see him, whether he's on stage or walking around my back yard with his bandmate Johnny Waken, teaching me which plants are native, and which are edible.
Today, I learned from his blog that the word quarantine "comes to us from 14th century Venice, when ships from plague-infected ports were required to sit at anchor for 40 days before landing. “Quaranta giorni” means “forty days.”
Hope you can join us for this daily conversation. #3, on Wednesday, will be with Beth Wood, all the way from the West Coast.
Let's support each other in these strange days, and wash our hands.
See you soon,
David
