Sustaining Our Spirits #12 - David Holt, musician & storyteller

By David LaMotte

David Holt is a four-time Grammy Award winner. He is also a musician, storyteller, historian, songwriter, television host and entertainer, dedicated to performing and preserving traditional American music and stories. Holt plays tons of acoustic instruments and has released numerous recordings of traditional mountain music and southern folktales. He has collaborated with some of the best known names in traditional music, and toured with the legendary Doc Watson for the last years of his career. Holt is well known for his television and radio series. Currently, he is hosting the PBS series David Holt’s State of Music, featuring some of the regions finest musicians including Rhiannon Giddens, Steep Canyon Rangers, and Balsam Range. For more than 30 years, Holt has been host of the North Carolina PBS series Folkways, which takes the viewer through the Southern Mountains visiting traditional craftsmen and musicians. A few years back, David Holt and David Wilcox and I did a string of shows together as 'The Three Davids', and had a ton of fun doing it. I'm honored to call him my friend and delighted to get to spend this time with him. I hope you can join us for what is sure to be a great conversation.
