ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Saraciea J. Fennell is a Black Honduran writer and the founder of The Bronx is Reading. She is also a book publicist who has worked with many award-winning and New York Times bestselling authors. Fennell sits on the board for Latinx in Publishing as well as on the Advisory Board of People of Color in Publishing. She lives in the Bronx with her family and dog, Oreo.
ABOUT THE IN CONVERSATION PARTNERS
Meg Medina is an award-winning and New York Times best-selling author who writes picture books, as well as middle-grade and young adult fiction. Her titles include Merci Suárez Changes Gears, a Newbery Medal winner; Burn Baby Burn, longlisted for the National Book Award, shortlisted for the Kirkus Prize, and a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize; and Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass, winner of the 2014 Pura Belpré Author Award. When she’s not writing, Meg works on community projects that support girls, Latino youth, and/or literacy. She serves on the National Board of Advisors for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and is a faculty member of Hamline University’s Masters of Fine Arts in Children’s Literature. She lives with her family in Richmond, Virginia.
Julian Randall is a Living Queer Black poet from Chicago. Their poetry and essays are published in New York Times Magazine, POETRY, and Vibe. They are the recipient of a Pushcart Prize. They hold an MFA in Poetry from Ole Miss. Their first book, Refuse, won the Cave Canem Poetry Prize and was a finalist for an NAACP Image Award. Julian has previously worked as a youth mentor, teaching writing workshops to children on house arrest. Pilar Ramirez and the Escape from Zafa is their debut children’s novel.
