Sage: An Evening of Poetry with Mx.Yaffa

By Charis Books and More/Charis Circle

This event takes place in person at Charis and on Crowdcast, Charis' virtual event platform. This event is free, but registration is required for virtual attendance. Please read the in-person event guidelines at the bottom of this page to be sure you can participate in the event. Charis and The Refaat Mobile Library welcome Mx. Yaffa in celebration of Sage, a poetry collection that highlights challenges and joy within interpersonal relationships from the perspective of a queer and trans Palestinian.

Sage is a poetry collection that acknowledges all transphobia is systemic but the pain of everyday interpersonal violence is still felt in our bones. A collection that highlights challenges and joy within interpersonal relationships from the perspective of a queer and trans Palestinian living at the margins of displacement, disability, immigration & ongoing genocide. Sage is a beacon of light, shedding light to wounds that have festered and rotted, and finding the paths forward as fascism claims more of who we are.

Mx. Yaffa is an author and storyteller that paves the way for us to imagine utopia through every word. Having shared their story with over 300,000 audience members at speaking events globally. Mx. Yaffa is an acclaimed disabled, autistic, trans, queer, Muslim, and indigenous Palestinian individual who has received multiple awards for their transformative work around displacement, decolonization, equity, and centering the lived experiences of individuals most impacted by injustice. Mx. Yaffa is the Executive Director of Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity (MASGD), as well as the founder of several non-profits and community projects. Mx. Yaffa is an engineer, death and birthing doula, peer support specialist, consultant, and artist.

The Refaat Mobile Library is a traveling memorial library created in honor of Refaat Alareer, the beloved Palestinian poet and educator who was killed by an Israeli airstrike in December. The volunteer-run mobile library travels all over Atlanta, bringing Palestinian, anti-Zionist and Indigenous literature rooted in collective liberation to protest trainings, divestment teach-ins, college graduations, community markets, charity basketball games, festivals, galleries, and more. If interested in contributing to the library, please explore our Charis wishlist here. Follow us on Instagram (@refaatlibraryatl) and Twitter (@refaatlibrary) for regular updates and pop-up schedule! You can also find us at our website.

The event is free and open to all people, but we encourage and appreciate a donation of $5-20 in support of the work of Charis Circle, our programming non-profit. Donate on Crowdcast or via our website: www.chariscircle.org/donate or in person at the event.
