Proud to Play: LGBTQ+ Athletes in Sports
By TPL Teens
This is a powerful presentation about the experience of professional LGBTQ+ athletes in Canadian sports. By looking at the stories in Erin's book, Proud to Play: Canadian LGBTQ+ Athletes Who Made History, participants will see how homophobia in professional sports has changed over time, how it varies from sport to sport, and how society is doing now. Erin will answer questions from the audience and also read from the book.
Erin Silver is a children’s author and freelance writer with 20 years of professional industry experience. Her journalism work has appeared in Good Housekeeping, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, The Washington Post and Today's Parent, among others. Her book, "Proud to Play: Canadian LGBTQ+ athletes who made history" (Lorimer Kids) is about the experience of LGBTQ+ athletes in Canadian sports.
