Parenting for Liberation: A Guide for Raising Black Children--A Conversation with Trina Greene Brown and Denene Millner
By Charis Books and More/Charis Circle
Charis welcomes Trina Greene Brown, author of Parenting for Liberation: A Guide for Raising Black Children and Denene Millner, author of My Brown Baby, for an essential conversation about how, in this time of perpetual state and interpersonal racial violence, Black families can imagine methods of parenting rooted in liberation rather than fear.
In 2016, activist and mother Trina Greene Brown created the virtual multimedia platform Parenting for Liberation to connect, inspire, and uplift Black parents. In her book, she pairs personal anecdotes with open-ended reflective prompts; together, they help readers dismantle harmful narratives about the Black family and imagine anti-oppressive parenting methods.
Parenting for Liberation: A Guide for Raising Black Children is rooted in an Afrofuturistic vision of connectivity and inspiration; the community created within these pages works to image a world that amplifies Black girl magic and Black boy joy, and everything in between.
This event is free and open to all people, especially to those who have no income or low income right now, but we encourage and appreciate a solidarity donation in support of the work of Charis Circle, our programming non-profit.
