Trumpet Player Solomon Parham from Detroit, MI has established a substantial music education and community performance pathway in the Twin Cities. Solomon began his musical education in Detroit at the age of 9, studying trumpet with Herbie Williams. Solomon knew at this early age that the trumpet would be his instrument of choice, and so it was with that he began to embark upon his musical journey that would later develop into a rewarding career. Time proceeded, as did Solomon’s desire to grow musically and to further cultivate his musical awareness.
Solomon graduated from Wayne State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education and earned his Master’s in Performance with an emphasis in trumpet from McNally Smith College of Music. While teaching in the metropolitan area of Detroit, he then served as mentor/member of the Civic Jazz Orchestra (CJO), a jazz education youth outreach program funded by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Later, he became Director of Bands in the Lansing (MI) Public School District.
Solomon has performed in the Twin Cities ranging from co-composing for KBEM Jazz 88.5 radio drama and hosting Jazz workshops for the Minnesota Jazz Education Foundation. Solomon has taught for summer youth Jazz camps such as Jazz Around Minneapolis (JAM) and has played on stages with celebrated musicians such as Delfeayo Marsalis, Eric Kamau Gravatt, Saxophonist Eric Alexander, Wess Anderson, and Bassist Christian McBride, and currently, a new member of the Sounds of Blackness. Solomon has achieved the ability to perform in various genres of music. Solomon is a dedicated music educator and consummate professional in the fine and performing arts.
