Making and Birthing your own Traditional Mojo Bag with Witchdoctor Utu

The Mojo Hand aka Mojo Bag is one of the Americas most legendary magical curios. Immortalized in countless old rhythm and blues songs, the mojo hand is a North American hoodoo and conjure staple, a charm for everything ranging from good luck to attraction, overcoming obstacles to road opening. The mojo hand however has a storied history with ever changing formulas, ingredients, and materials as it took root in the southern United States, Appalachian Regions, and the Northeast of the Continent. As well, the Mojo Hand was a commonly used charms along the trails of the Underground Railroad, used by its traveling freedom seekers and their supporters alike. Massachusetts was a veritable capital of Abolitionism during the days of the Underground Railroad, with many routes towards freedom leading north and northwest through Pennsylvania, western New York and into Canada.

In the class, Witchdoctor Utu will discuss:
  • The history of the Mojo Hands legacy, why it was used in the fight against slavery including the sacred mysteries of High John the Conqueror root, an essential ingredient in traditional Mojo Hand
  • How the Mojo Hand has changed over the years as it cross pollinated among different cultures and regions of North America, and ultimately what it has become today
  • Step-by-step instructions, formula and incantations will be shared as the attendees assemble and birth their mojo.
The specific Mojo Hand being made in the class will be a particular one sourced from the magic and mysticism of the Underground Railroad that is still applicable in our modern times.
