Making a Living and Making a Life: a short talk on writing and publishing
By TPL Programs
TPL’s Summer 2021 Writer in Residence is Kate Cayley. Learn more about TPL’s Writer in Residence program.
Writing is a solitary act, but introducing your work to the world is anything but. You want to write, but you also want to be read. And you still need to pay your bills. How do you plan your time so you work most effectively? What is the discipline, as well as the craft, of writing? How do you apply for grants? What grants are available? What about publishing in small periodicals? Seeking a mentor? Seeking an agent? What is the role of an editor? What should you expect? How do you know where to begin and end up where you want to be? How do you balance your writing life with the rest of your life?
An informal talk on the practical side of writing.
